The dungeons are split into biomes, with between 3-5 floors per biome and a boss section.ĭungeon floors consist of rooms that are roughly the size of one screen. Gameplay-wise, Undermine is an action-adventure roguelike seen from a top-down 2D view featuring 16-bit aesthetics. Each time the peasant dies they’re replaced by another, much to the amusement of the cast of permanent characters. The premise is that evil demons have appeared and it’s down to the player as a nameless, disposable peasant (alongside their trusty familiar) to help a wizard quell them. Lately it seems like we’re getting a new roguelike almost daily and genre burnout is real, but hear me out - Undermine, developed by Thorium, is one of the cracking ones. WTF The soundtrack sounds like synth System of a Down. Fyi i would give slay the spire a 9 rating.HIGH It’s got that ‘ just one more go’ quality.

Has potential to be a 8/9 if they beef it up. Sound is a-bit poor in terms of variation, monster sounds etc. Graphics fit very well for this style of game. The Bosses are great and require tactical fighting not just mashing the attack button. Summary: its an addictive game, progression is steady, upgrades and buffs are balanced but lacks imagination. i assume they are staying true to a "miner" but i would of preferred some like cool pickaxe, a double headed one, one that shoots mini pickaxes out of it or like a move where the pickaxe spins in circle creating a whirlwind and spins around the map. except it lacks in imaginative and impactful relics&buffs and only sticks with one weapon *a pick axe* all the way through.

it feels to me like slay the spire(relics and buffs each play through) and diablo 3 (top down fighting). i believe it was for balancing the game and not making things op. I've given it a 7 because i feel they could of done alot more with the relics/buffs/equipment etc they just feel a tad lack luster and not very imaginative, don't get me wrong some are great but never amazing and the majority are just meh and have a very small impact on your character. but gaining a little more knowledge and another chance at defeating the floors boss and maybe i would find a new schematic for an armour buff for next time.
#Undermine review upgrade
This game had me dying over and over again each time letting me upgrade my equipment or brewing a potion for my next trip to the dungeon to once again die. I completed this game today, well the first run through (you then can play again with hex's attached to your miner which make it even i completed this game today, well the first run through (you then can play again with hex's attached to your miner which make it even harder.(took around 30 hours btw mainly because the bosses were so hard but fun.

So ideally, you will never have the same character ever. One cool thing about this game is that the game generates a new character name upon respawn at death (when health goes to 0) or at the creation of each new game save. Storyline premise, I have no idea, all I know is that your a lowly mining peasant who is sent on a journey with quests to rescue trapped people inside the goldmines, travel your way through dungeons and battle dangerous bosses. For an Early Access game, the pixel art style is amazing for what they’re trying to achieve with this game. Sometimes you ask yourself, what if 'The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth' & 'Enter the Gungeon' created a baby, what would it look like? This is the game. I have not tested this game with a keyboard. This game is best played with a controller, I tested it and it works with the Xbox One controller or ASTRO C40.
#Undermine review for free
Getting the game for free doesn’t affect my review at all. This game is best played with a Note: I did get this game for free.
